☆ Quotes from my journal:
I really wanted to push myself into the real world, see the world and gain confidence, grow as a person through undertaking DPS. I feel that this decision will definitely be meaningful in the future, no matter the result. (*I was worried about not being able to find the placement later on, and maybe going back to the third year) Although this is only the start, I’m proud of myself in August when I was crying and worrying about my future. —> Facing the fear –> Fear is something I should face, it’s the timing and that’s what I need to grow. I’m grateful and happy with where I am and I will work hard, do my best in every task, and continue to grow!
☆ Tasks
- The first role I was given was to be in charge of Depop sales, listings, and posting the parcels. Even though I thought this was just a simple task that all interns do, after discussing it with Ansel, there was a major takeaway. Through managing the account, I got to see the fast, real-time response from the customers, which gave me an idea of the popular products. Also, compared to the management of the official online shop (on Shopify), I felt that Depop could build more intimate shopping relationships with the customers. This made me think that interns are given this role as they would have an intuitive relationship with digital media, and for them to see how we communicate with customers and apply that knowledge/taste to content creation. (I felt that Depop has something close to content creation – displaying the products, keeping consistency to create a feed with an organised look, and thinking of the captions that would attract customers.)

- Another task was to search for Japanese wholesale shops/”select shops” where Fruity Booty products could be sold. This required me to research the Japanese lingerie/underwear trend and market, the system of Japanese wholesale, and pick out potential stores considering their concept/style. This task was special for me as I feel that it is something only I can do/or have knowledge of in the office (as I’m the only Japanese person), and I also got to learn about the wholesale system – which I think will never have the opportunity to if I didn’t have this chance.
- Hand-sewing labels: For samples needed for the shoot, I was asked to handsaw some labels! I always liked embroidery and crochet, and I felt confident – realising my strength. Also, this was an opportunity for me to know more about what Fruity Booty values –> Everyone seemed very excited to see the labels sewed on, which reflected how they value the importance and understand the impact of small details. Even though labels are a small detail, they enhance the item’s premium feeling which I strongly relate to. It was great to know that we share a similar value for details.

☆ Shooting!: Reflection on the whole experience, how I felt very grateful to be there as it’s an infrequent opportunity, probably would never have experienced if I hadn’t joined the team (normal fashion shoots may have a higher chance of contributing, but I felt that lingerie brand is rare)
☆ Overall reflection on the first week:
This week was definitely a memorable one! From being super nervous about everything to feeling somewhat confident and comfortable in the office, I think I worked hard on every task given. I received many pleasing comments such as “You’re amazing”, “You’re so hardworking” – which motivates me to do better! I’m extremely grateful for everyone supporting me… I wish to give them back by positively contributing to the brand.
Something I wish to improve is my communication skills with everyone in the office. I know that I am pretty quiet, but I really want to push myself to have more casual, friendly conversations. Also when I ask questions I tend to hesitate –> which is something to take note of, as I learned the importance of asking questions, and I should do so especially because they are always very friendly: I don’t have to have the “fear” of feeling ashamed or judged for not knowing.
